"BAD" Birthday Bash Brings Michael Back To Memphis

August is both a time of much celebration and somber reflection in Memphis. It is, of course, the month in which Memphis lost its favorite native son, Elvis Presley. It was also on August 14th, 1958 that Presley’s beloved mother Gladys died-coincidentally (or not) just two weeks before the birth of Michael Jackson, who of course would grow up to become The King of Pop and marry The King of Rock N’ Roll’s daughter, Lisa Marie.

Confused yet? Don’t be. It’s just all part of the saga of music royalty in the city by the big river!

This year, I’m very excited to announce the kickstart of a new annual event in Memphis, The King of Pop “BAD” Birthday Bash, which is being spearheaded by Memphis dj Zwan Landfair. I know that there are a LOT of events going on all over the world this week, but this one is special to me as I don’t believe (to my knowledge) there has yet been a major event celebrating Michael’s birthday in the South. So I hope that everyone who can will turn out and help make this a huge success!

This year’s event will be hosted by Sheila Guerrero, founder of Memphis’s Stop The Hurt, Start The Healing Foundation. This is a wonderful local organization in Memphis whose mission is to continue Michael Jackson’s humanitarian work. You can read more about the foundation here:

Next year, the event host will be YOURS TRULY! I’m very honored that I was asked, and already excited!

But in the meantime, here are more details about THIS year’s event, as per the event’s Facebook page:

This is an exclusive event to celebrate the music of Michael Jackson the “GREATEST ENTERTAINER EVER”.  Hosting this very special night in none other than Sheila “iluvmichaeljackson” Guerrero.  Shelia is the #1 Michael Jackson fan in Memphis, TN and founder of “STOP THE HURT START THE HEALING”, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help aid those who are in need in the inner city of Memphis, TN.   Come out as we dance to music performed or inspired by “THE KING OF POP”, compete in the Wii Console dance game, “Michael Jackson:  The Experience”, and connect with other MJ fans, .  This special event will be held at The LUXE Penthouse, at 45 G.E. Patterson Memphis, TN.  Music inspired by MJ and mixed by DJ ZWAN (Zwan Landfair)

  1. Sounds like a wonderful event to celebrate Michael’s Music and to support a very worthy cause. I wish I lived closer to Memphis so I could be there. Thanks for providing the info about the event and also the links to the “Stop the Hurt, Start the Healing Foundation”. I’ll definitely be making a donation in memory and honor of Michael. It is a perfect way to remember Michael on his birthday.
Congratulations also on being asked to host the event next year. I know you will do a fabulous job. I may have to start planning a trip to Memphis!

    1. I just wish I’d had a little more lead time with this but at least there is plenty of time to be thinking about next year! Of course I am all for anytime and anywhere that people want to gather to celebrate the magic of Michael and his music. Memphis is a real party town anyway, so it doesn’t take much to get a party going there, lol. For us, it’s sort of like a more affordable version of New Orleans (a 4 hr road trip as opposed to a 7-8 hr one) but Memphis really has its own vibe and its own personality. Whereas New Orleans has that slightly European, Old World vibe, Memphis is just good ol’ down home blues and Southern Americana.
